Wedding Day Shoes - are flats for you?

It’s your wedding day. You’ve had your “Yes!” moment with your perfect gown. You’ve chosen a veil and likely jewelry that compliments it. Maybe you’re even incorporating your “something new” or “something old” into your wedding day fashions with a special new piece or a family heirloom. All that’s left to finish the look is finding the perfect shoes. As Cinderella once proved, a good pair of footwear can seriously change your life, and that’s a pretty bold statement if I do say so myself!

So, where do you begin? Heels are, and will always be, the ultimate sign of style. Wedges are great for outdoor weddings, or adding a bit of comfort without losing height. But flats are possibly the most versatile shoes to have for your wedding day. Whether you’re walking down the aisle in flats, or swapping out to something more comfortable after the ceremony or first dance, having a great pair of flats for your wedding day is a no brainer! But let’s be honest, the market just does not cater to flats the way they do to sexy heels. So I’ve curated a short list of some of my favorite wedding shoe designers, and my top three choices for flats in each of their collections. Don’t worry, there isn’t a flip flop in sight!

Do keep in mind wedding shoe styles change with the seasons, as with other fashions, so the shoes selected here might include sale shoes or styles that are no longer produced (depending on when you read this) but the shoe designer selections are timeless. Each image links to original website.

Rachel Simpson

Rachel Simpson is a UK based shoe designer, but her styles are available worldwide. Her designs are feminine and a bit vintage inspired, and options can accommodate anything from classic white to a hint of sparkle to your something blue.

Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson has been a household name in the fashion industry since the 80s where her bright colors and bold patterns made a quick mark on the city street scene. You can aways count on her designs to be full of personality, and while they aren’t for every bride, they will certainly be statement making shoes!

Kate Whitcomb

Kate Whitcomb is a newer name in the shoe industry, but her styles are certainly making a mark! She offers a great assortment of styles, from simple and chic to sparkly and showstopping, so chances are you’ll find the perfect shoe to complete your look. Bonus, she works with vegan materials, so you don’t have to sacrifice style to stay responsible.

Keds x Kate Spade and Keds x Rifle Paper Co

Keds are classic. Kate Spade is classic. Together, they’ve created some of the chicest sneakers around! It was honestly hard to choose my top three here, since there are so many sparkly and embellished options, so I would definitely recommend looking through the whole collection before making any final selections.

The Keds x Rifle Paper Co collection is also pretty fantastic. If you’re familiar with Rifle Paper Co, you know they are one of the industry leaders on posh floral patterns from paper to home to fashion. And what’s better than holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers on your wedding day? Wearing them on your feet of course!

Double the stunning collections, double the shoes:

Badgley Mischka

Badgley Mischka is a partnership as classic as peanut butter and jelly. When these two designers joined forces in the late 80s, they were instantly successful with the socialite women of NY and LA who wanted striking pieces with unwavering elegance. While the two gentlemen no longer run the fashion house, the brand still lives on, honoring the original mission - statement making garments and accessories for the prestigious woman. Luckily their price points are reasonable, all things considered, so you can own a piece of prestige without the NYC socialite price tag!

Hopefully this gives you some fashionable options that won’t force you to sacrifice any comfort on your wedding day. I’d love to see photos of what shoes you chose for your big day, flats or otherwise, so feel free to share pics in the comments!
